Sleep apnea treatment

Get a good night’s rest! Do you suffer from sleep apnea? You should know that sleep apnea is a serious health problem. The serious impact it can have on different aspects of your life should convince you to look for an effective way to treat it.

The different treatments available at La boite à CPAP

At La boite à CPAP, we offer you a personalized approach that allows you to find a sleep apnea treatment that will not only be effective but will also precisely meet your individual needs.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy

The most common treatment used to relieve obstructive sleep apnea is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy. This consists of a device that delivers air pressure to keep the upper airways open and enable regular breathing during sleep. The CPAP unit can deliver a fixed or variable pressure.

To determine the right pressure, your doctor may prescribe an automated CPAP treatment titration test, which involves testing a CPAP device set at a variable pressure. This examination allows your doctor to prescribe the appropriate pressure for the treatment.

Positional therapy

Positional therapy can be used to treat mild to moderate sleep apnea. Some people have apneas and/or hypopneas mostly in the dorsal position, so using a device to maintain a lateral position may be enough to treat SAHS. If positional therapy fails or if you still suffer from sleep apnea symptoms despite this therapy, a CPAP device should be considered by your doctor.

PERSONALIZED FOLLOW-UP offered to patients undergoing CPAP treatment

It is important for your health and quality of life that you follow the CPAP treatment as prescribed. This is why we offer a personalized follow-up based on the needs of our clients. Starting a treatment with a CPAP device is not easy for everyone and we understand this. Good therapy begins with a clear understanding of sleep apnea, the device and its maintenance. Your respiratory therapist will ensure that you are adequately informed on these topics and will remain available at all times to answer your questions.

Regular therapeutic follow-up will be performed by your respiratory therapist after the treatment has been implemented;

  • The following week
  • The following month
  • Every 6 months

A follow-up report will be sent to your doctor.

ANNUAL FOLLOW-UP: essential for CPAP treatment effectiveness

Each year, you will meet with your respiratory therapist to have your CPAP device, tubing, mask and humidity chamber checked. It is important to ensure that the equipment is in good condition and that your treatment is effective. It is recommended to change the tubing, mask and humidity chamber every year to prevent bacteria from growing. It is also recommended to change the CPAP device every 5 years.
